Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand and home to elaborate adornments of shrines and dynamic, energetic lifestyle. There are several attraction sites in Bangkok that have preserved the cultural attractions since time immemorial. For instance, the ancient buildings of the Vimanmek Palace and the Thompson House that was initially a residential place and since converted into a museum. These buildings are placed strategically with a sharp contrast with the surrounding modern skyscrapers.
The Chao Phraya River, always filled with small boats, drains into several canals and flows through the Grand Palace and the sacred Wat Phra Kaew Temple, within the royal district of Rattanakosin. In the same vicinity lies the giant Buddha statue in the Wat Pho Temple that forms one of the most prominent attraction spots in Bangkok. On the other side of River Chao Phraya lies the Wat Arun Temple, built in a Khmer-style spire, complete with great steep steps.
Numerous small shopping kiosks and stalls in the Chatuchak Weekend Market make part of the shopping options. Alternative ones entail the high-end mega-mall in the district of Ratchaprasong. For food, enjoy the traditional street food shops and carts or the alternative high-end international restaurants with sweet, savory delicacies.
The district of Patpong brings the most fantastic nightlife to Bangkok, with the vibrancy felt from the street bars, the rooftop clubs, and the regular nightclubs, all night long.

When to visit Bangkok

Tourists frequent Bangkok throughout the year as the weather is moderately tolerable all year. From November to February, Bangkok is warm and dry, and most tourists visit around the same time. The period between March and May experiences higher temperatures and that between May and November experiences high rainfall. In April, Bangkok celebrates the Songkran/Thai New Year with colorfulness to behold. In November, in a celebration that sees numerous candles lit afloat along the river, Bangkok celebrates the "Festival of Lights". The fifth Day of December is special to the locals in Bangkok as it is when they mark the birthday of Bhumibol Adulyadej, their late king. On the same day, Bangkok marks its National Day celebration as well as their National Father's Day.
